What is Onboarding?

Onboarding is a process of integrating new employees into a company. An onboarding program provides a new hire with the resources to become successful and productive. It generally takes 8 months for an employee to become fully productive. Research by Glassdoor found that organizations with a strong onboarding process will improve new hire retention by 82 percent and productivity by over 70 percent.

Why is Onboarding Important?

  • Proper onboarding is important because employee turnover is expensive. It can cost 30% to 50% of an entry person’s annual salary and often costs 150% - 400% for senior employees. Morale and productivity are also affected when an employee leaves the company

  • 30% of new employees, according to the Jobvite survey, leave their jobs within 90 days. There were three main reasons: the job wasn’t what they were expecting, having a bad experience, and that the company culture was a problem.

My Onboarding Recommendation

Employers can provide onboard training before the first day of work. This allows new employees an opportunity to get familiar with the company before they start working. Employers can get administrative duties out of the way and begin making the employee comfortable with the company.

What should be included in the online learning module before the employee begins the first day at the office?

  • Administrative – financial and policy documents

  • Introductions from the management and leadership

  • Mobile design for flexibility

If you would like to have an onboarding module to introduce new employees to your company before they begin to work, just contact me. I can design a module that will help your new employee become familiar with your company and reduce the amount of time wasted on filling out paperwork on the first day. This will allow your employees’ first day to be used more productively.
